The baby boomer generation — the generation that pioneered and developed the internet and the foundations of software — refers to the large demographic cohort born during the post-World War II baby boom between 1946 and 1964.
Some key facts about this generation: The term “baby boomer” was coined to describe the dramatic spike in births after WWII. During the postwar era, birth rates shot up as American soldiers returned home and started families. Many of these individuals are now aging rapidly, having witnessed modern history unfold before their eyes through the advent of television and the internet.
This generation pioneered and developed the internet and the foundations of software called Fortran, Lisp, COBOL, ALGOL, and BASIC.
These were some of the first high-level languages that emerged in the 1950s and 1960s to make programming more accessible on early computers. They laid the groundwork for many modern languages just like LLM’s are laying the groundwork today for future AI models.
